Riding routes
A variety of riding routes in the Brecon beacons national Park.
The National Park has over 600 miles of bridle paths and tracks, so riders are spoilt for choice. Most treks and hacks are guided, but if you are a more experienced rider and want to set off on your own, each centre will have suggestions when you hire your horse.
These change according to conditions, so follow any advice carefully. In fine weather the most spectacular views tend to be on the mountains, while the lowland routes are beautiful and rich in wildlife at any time. Several long-distance routes are being developed on the Epynt, in Crychan Fforest and at Torfaen. The Epynt Way will link to the Crychan Fforest and eventually the Three Rivers Ride.
This last is first to be launched by the British Horse Society. It is a 35-mile trail from Hay to Brecon along the western flank of the Black Mountains. There are plenty of farms, pubs and small hotels willing to put up both horse and rider along the route and several centres will provide guides, horses and horse boxes for riders wanting a challenge.
